Shrimp Sam was stuffed in a smelly locker again.

They could have at least given him a comic to read.

When Shrimp Sam’s mom gave him a Dream Train for his 12th birthday, he never imagined it would sweep him away on a magical experience that would change how he thought of himself.

Come on this journey with us!

Shrimp Sam was written and illustrated by 14-year-old Preston Tsai, who hopes this book will help people re-imagine their differences as the source of their greatest strengths. He hopes to sell as many books as possible so he can provide books, meals, and hope for kids in need.

It’s natural to want to fit in and to consider our weaknesses unassailable. But what if you could turn your weaknesses into strengths? Shrimp Sam shows you how.

All kids want to fit in. But what if your differences are what make you special?

Shrimp Sam is a children’s book I wrote and illustrated that teaches kids to take pride in their differences instead of being ashamed of them. It is vital that we embrace our uniqueness as being different allows us to ameliorate the world.

This issue is important to me as I was born with an auditory processing disorder that makes school hard for me. However, I found a refuge in art. Making art that brings people laughter and joy is what I breathe for.

Anyway, I crafted Shrimp Sam to give other kids who are different hope that their differences could mean something better. Although I still struggle with many things, being different turned out to be a gift because it gave me empathy and a different perspective. It also gave me my craft.
